DIY Industrial Pendant Lamp

I am so excited to share with you the DIY industrial pendant lamp my hubby and I made over the weekend!!!  Remember in my last post I told you how I was going out to do some thrifty shopping over the weekend? Well, while we were out we found the perfect solution to our task lighting dilemma in the nursery.

As most anyone knows….waking a sleeping baby is never good, especially a newborn.  Well, we have a ceiling fan/lighting in the nursery but we were wanting to add some additional lighting that I could turn on for feeding or going into the baby’s room at night while is sleeping and/or fussy.  I searched all over for an inexpensive standing lamp and the ones that I liked were around $40 and I just wasn’t wanting to pay that much.  So, I was searching online for ideas on how I could make my own and had an AH HA moment! The theme of the nursery is cars/travel with a bit of an industrial flair to it.  I decided I could make an industrial looking lamp by using something that looked like this below for the main part of the light and then just buy a light kit from the hardware store to make it work.

Well, look what my Hubby found while searching the thrift stores….

SCORE!!!

I did the happy dance as soon as I saw it, because not only was this EXACTLY what I had been looking for, BUT, this little beauty was already painted red which would match the nursery.

Here are the components we used to make the lamp

This is how we {my Hubby} put the components together

Then follow the directions on the package to put together the 3 way turn knob socket and screw that into the components you just added to your lamp

Next, connect the wires from the lamp cord set to the 3 way turn knob socket and TADA you have a pendant lamp!

We added black chain to ours, intertwining the lamp cord into the chain and hung the chain from a hook in the ceiling

Here is what we came up with
Now it is my job to make the cord cover and pin the cord back in the corner so it less noticeable

Here is a sneak peak of the reading corner

Cost of this project was less than $10 for all parts and the lamp shade!
